Modular Construction Relationships are Stronger Than Ever

Off-site construction continues to grow worldwide. According to a recent Grand View Research study, the compound annual growth rate for modular construction is expected to exceed 6.5% through 2025. While those numbers include residential modular construction, equally strong growth is predicted for the commercial, healthcare, educational and industrial sectors.

The study adds that “modular construction accounts for 30-to-50% time savings over the transitional counterpart.” That’s no surprise to the Epsilon team, as we regularly see those efficiencies play out when we design and build central utility systems for our clients.  However, while studies like the Grand View Research study frequently highlight the macro-level data, they sometimes miss the nuances found in the day-to-day application of off-site construction.

That includes how relationships are evolving between manufacturers of modular systems and general contractors. Relationships grow stronger when projects come together as smoothly as possible, and that benefits the project owner, along with everyone else involved. A few example benefits include:

  • Consistency – Modular construction happens in a controlled manufacturing environment, leading to high levels of consistency in both processes and completed units.
  • Timing – Manufactured central utility plants are built in an off-site facility, allowing for concurrent work streams, shortening overall construction timelines.
  • Certainty – Modular or off-site construction allows for on-time delivery of QA-tested components that arrive ready to assemble, at the cost everyone expected.
  • Stronger Outputs – Modular components are built to exacting standards using proven processes, inside a dedicated facility protected from the weather. There are multiple QA checks, including a pre-assembly walk-through before shipping.

Certainly, there are financial benefits to modular construction, yet the feedback we hear most often from Epsilon clients is that the process of using our off-site constructed systems is better, faster and easier for the whole project team. That’s a win-win that leads to stronger relationships and an improved final result. Contact Epsilon today to learn more about how off-site construction might impact your next project.
