Epsilon Sustainability effortsEpsilon Industries is excited to announce that our company is undertaking an in-depth assessment of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

Scope 1 and 2 emissions capture the direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from sources that we directly control, such as the fuel consumed by our vehicles and the generation of electricity we purchase for our manufacturing facilities in Ontario, Pennsylvania, and Alabama.

In our pursuit of accurate and dependable data for Scope 1 and 2, we have been collaborating with seasoned experts from @Sustainable Stewards, and expect to have a full emissions baseline established in 2024. By establishing this baseline, Epsilon will define the sources of our emissions, the breadth of our environmental footprint, and the best ways to reduce our GHG impact.

Epsilon manufacturing facilityFor Off Site Constructors like Epsilon, one significant contributor to GHG emissions can be Scope 3 emissions: those emissions associated with the third-party components we integrate into the systems we design and build. Quantifying those Scope 3 emissions requires input from our suppliers, which in turn requires those businesses to have quantified their own Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions – an on-going effort in a developing field. It also considers the distance these components must travel to reach our facilities. Ultimately, quantifying Scope 3 emissions provides additional metrics for project teams to consider – beyond the traditional considerations of footprint, first cost, efficiency, etc. – when collaborating with Epsilon on important system considerations.

We look forward to working with our suppliers and customers to better understand the impact of our design and construction process on our collective environmental footprint, as we continue to leverage modular innovations, lean manufacturing, and informed supply chain choices. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
